About Us
Our focus is simple—brew great beer, cook from scratch, and support the community around us—all while keeping things easygoing and fun.
Ocean View Brewing is part of the Southern Delaware Brewing family, built around the coastal Delaware lifestyle we’re lucky to be a part of. Our focus is simple—brew great beer, cook from scratch, and support the community around us—all while keeping things easygoing and fun.
We opened our doors on March 17, 2022 (a pretty great St. Patrick’s Day) with a team that still makes up the heart of the place today. We’re led by Chris Berghaus out front and Chef Maggie Williamson in the kitchen, bringing a hands-on, consistent approach to everything we do.
We’ve always seen ourselves as a spot for locals to gather, which has allowed us to work closely with some great community partners like the Historic Village of Ocean View, local volunteer fire companies, the Center for the Inland Bays, and the Food Bank of Delaware.
The space matches that same feel—welcoming, comfortable, and built to hang out in. With indoor and outdoor dining, a cozy beer garden, and a spacious bar, it’s the kind of place you can settle into, grab a beer, and stay awhile.
What’s up with the chicken?
Around here, the chicken means something.
Back in 1923, right here in Ocean View, Cecile Long Steele raised 500 chickens for meat instead of eggs—and unknowingly kicked off something much bigger. That single decision helped launch the modern broiler industry, changing agriculture across the country and putting our small coastal town on the map.
Ocean View is known as the birthplace of the commercial broiler chicken industry, and it’s a story we’re proud to carry forward. You can still see that history today at the Historic Village in Ocean View, where a replica of her original chicken house stands as a reminder of how it all started.
So yeah—we use the chicken a lot. It’s a nod to local roots, a little bit of Delaware history, and the kind of bold, unexpected move we can get behind.
